Girinagar is a beautiful and serene residential layout formerly known as Writer's Colony is located in South West Bengaluru, close to Mysore Road and Outer Ring Road. The locality is surrounded by Nayandahalli in the west, Byatarayanapura and Deepanjali Nagar in the north, Srinagar and Banashankari in the east and Hosakerehalli in the south. This layout was formed by the cooperative housing society named as All Karnataka Young Writers and Artists Association (Regd) in 1970. It was headed then by Late Sri. Krishna Bhat. The society was renamed as Vishva Bharati Housing Co-operative Society and Girinagar was named after the former President of India V. V. Giri who inaugurated the layout in 1972 and also because of the Hirannayya Gudda (Hill) on the Western side as Giri, hill in Sanskrit.

Girinagar Welfare Association (Registration No. 80/87-88) was formed in 1987 by like-minded residents to sort out and resolve the difficulties faced by the allottees of the site due to the indifference of the Society. Vision: Unite the community of residents of Girinagar with harmony and cooperation and ensure success of community initiatives. Mission: Committing, contributing, and marching forward with guidance of elders and active participation of youngsters to sustain a happy community of residents. Values: Civic sense in maintaining cleanliness, following regulations, avoiding wastage of resources. Inspiring kids and guiding youngsters to be responsible community members. A cordial and enriching environment for families.
